JAPAN: Pakistan men’s team kicked off the Asian Volleyball Championship on a winning note by defeating Thailand in the opening match here on Sunday.
In a nail-biting contest, both teams fought hard to finish on top. Thailand started the match on a strong note by winning the opening set by 25-22. Pakistan bounced back and won the next set by 25-23.
With equal scores of 1-1, players from both sides put all their efforts to score points. Thailand made the ground in the third set as the scoreboard read 25-21 in their favor. Pakistan made a splendid comeback in the next round, winning it by 25-21.
After twists and turns, the match went on the final do-or-die round. In a close contest, Pakistan won the last set by 15-12 and marked their first victory in the event.
The Green shirts will now meet Hong Kong in their next game tomorrow.
