Quetta: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh won their matches on the opening day of the Cricket Associations T20 tournament on Wednesday here at the Bugti Stadium.
An all-round performance from Aamer Azmat led Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to a 45-run win over Balochistan in the opening match of the tournament.
After being put into bat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa scored 185 for seven in 20 overs. Openers Sajjad Ali and Aamer provided a solid start of 59 to the batting side.
Aamer top-scored with 97 off 64 balls. His innings included nine fours and four sixes.
For Balochistan, Gohar Faiz was the most successful bowler with three for 24 in four overs. Mohammad Shahid and captain Jalat Khan picked two wickets apiece.
In return, Balochistan were bowled out for 140 in 19.3 overs as Aamer with his right-arm spin returned four for 24 and Asif Afridi picked three for 15. Abdul Hanan was the only notable run getter for Balochistan with 42 off 36 balls (four fours and one six).
On the other hand, Central Punjab’s Imran Dogar scored a half-century but his efforts went in vain as Sindh overcame the defending champions by 15 runs in the second match of the opening day.
Sindh scored 163 for eight after opting to bat first. Omair Bin Yousuf top-scored with a quick-fire 17-ball 30 which included four fours and one six.
Usman Khan (26 off 12), Faraz Ali (25 off 22) and Asif Mehmood (25 not out off 13) contributed with the bat.
Mohammad Irfan Jnr and Kamran Afzal picked two wickets each.
In the run-chase, Central Punjab managed to score 148 for eight. Imran (57 off 50) was the only significant contributor with the bat. He struck six fours and a six.
Asif Mehmood, Mohammad Umar and Rameez Aziz picked two wickets apiece.
