LAHORE: Pakistan cricket team captain Babar Azam refused to answer particularly on the exclusion of former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed from the national ODI squad.
Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, Babar said he is not supposed to talk individually about Sarfaraz as chief selector Mohammad Wasim has given an explanation on his exclusion from ODIs against New Zealand.
“I can’t talk individually about Sarfaraz. I think the chief selector has explained it already,” he responded to the surprising exclusion of Sarfaraz from the team without playing.
While talking further on the ODI squad, Babar said the best possible players were selected for the series, they can’t make everyone happy.
“These are the best possible players we had. We tried to include some players to fill in the gaps, especially middle-order batting,” he shared.
“See, criticism is always there but we select players who we need. We can’t make everyone happy. Our focus is on the series and we will try to win it,” the skipper said.
T20 World Cup
Babar said they have seven matches before the T20 World Cup which are enough to prepare for the mega event.
“We will play seven T20Is against two top teams, New Zealand and England. These matches will be important for us in preparations for the extravaganza,” he said.
“As far as our match against India is concerned, so obviously it’s a high-pressure game. I think we will be more prepared as compared to them after playing international games, they will come after playing franchise cricket. I am personally looking forward to this encounter,” he concluded.
