Babar isn’t happy with selection of Sohaib, Azam: Sources

KARACHI: Skipper Babar Azam wasn’t happy with the national team’s selection for T20 World Cup, slated to start in UAE and Oman on October 17.

According to the sources, Babar wasn’t in favour of Shoaib Maqsood and Azam Khan’s selection in the squad. He wanted Sharjeel Khan, Fakhar Zaman and Usman Qadir in the team for the extravaganza.

Sources further claimed that to-be Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja tried to convince Babar not to select players who were involved in match-fixing.

Pakistan can make changes to their T20 World Cup squad by October 16 (without any questions being asked) as per the International Cricket Council (ICC)’s policy.

The mega event is scheduled to start with qualifiers from October 17 in Oman and UAE. Super 12 competitions will start from October 23 in two groups. Pakistan will start their T20 World Cup campaign against arch-rivals India on October 24.
