Pakistan to take legal action against New Zealand, England

Islamabad: Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry on Tuesday said that the government will consult lawyers regarding legal action against the New Zealand and England cricket boards after they cancelled Pakistan tours.

Taking to Twitter, the information minister said the cancellations by the two boards — New Zealand Cricket and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) — had cost Pakistan Television (PTV) tremendous financial loss.

“Cancellation of New Zealand and England tours has cost PTV in crores. We will consult lawyers about legal action against the two boards, A specific foreign lobby is busy [in activities] against Pakistan but those wishing to make us bend will never be successful,” he wrote.

“A certain international lobby is engaged against Pakistan but those who want to bend us will never succeed. This misunderstanding should quickly be rid of,” he added.

Meanwhile, after the Cabinet meeting, he revealed that cancelations caused a loss of Rs 250 million to PTV.

It must be noted that first New Zealand abandoned their tour of Pakistan on Friday over a ‘hoax’ security threat received by its government and security agencies while England followed the same suit, citing concerns about traveling to the region and mental pressure due to bio-secure bubbles.
