Mike Atherton questions ECB’s silence over cancelled Pakistan tour

KARACHI: English broadcaster Mike Atherton questioned England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB)’s silence after canceling the Pakistan tour which was scheduled for next month.

Atherton wrote an article in The Times, raising concerns over a suspicious stance of ECB over abandoning an important tour to Pakistan.

“The ECB’s silence is deafening. The board assumes it can put out a feeble, mealy-mouthed statement and hide behind it for good, saying nothing more,” he wrote.

“Pakistan’s cricketers, who spent two months in a biosecure bubble here last summer to help save the game from financial catastrophe, their administrators, who have done so much to get cricket back to that country, and supporters deserve better. The game in this country deserves better,” he added.

It must be noted here that ECB followed New Zealand Cricket (NZC) and canceled the Pakistan tour citing security concerns that may have pressure on players’ minds before T20 World Cup.

Several former English cricketers, journalists, and media houses question the ECB’s decision that came out all of a sudden.
