Polish Javelin Thrower Maria sells her Olympic medal to save a toddler

KARACHI: Poland’s Javelin Thrower Maria Andrejczyk has sold out her Tokyo Olympics 2020’s Silver Medal to save a life of a toddler.

According to the details, Maria sold out her Olympics Silver medal for $125,000 (PKR 2.5 crore) to help an eight-month-old kid named Milosz Malysa get his heart surgery done in California.

“I didn’t spend long thinking about this. It was the first fundraiser I came across and I knew it was the right one,” she was quoted saying.

The Polish Super Market Chain that won the bid returned the medal to their national hero and donated the equivalent money for Malysa’s surgery.

It must be noted here that Maria finished second in the women’s category of Javelin Throw in Olympic Games 2020 with a throw of 64.61. Liu Shiying of China bagged Gold with a throw of 66.34 whereas Australia’s Kelsey-Lee Barber finished third with a throw of 64.56.
