Karachi: New Zealand tour of Pakistan has taken a positive step after New Zealand Cricket (NZC) approved the tour following security assessment, ARY News reported.
According to renowned New Zealand’s publication ‘Stuff’, independent security consultant, Reg Dickason assessed the pre-tour arrangements and is satisfied with them.
Both steps have been part of the standard pre-tour process, as agreed by NZC and the New Zealand Cricket Players Association, for the past 12 years.
Reportedly players part of the squad raised concerns after the Taliban’s takeover of neighboring Afghanistan.
The Black Caps squad for the first stage of the Pakistan tour is currently in Bangladesh, preparing for a five-match T20I series that begins on Wednesday.
Captain Tom Latham said via Zoom from Dhaka that the players had “full trust” in NZC’s processes and Dickason’s assessment.
“Someone like Reg, he’s been around a long time, and he’s worked with New Zealand Cricket for a long time,” he said.
“We here have full trust in what he does for New Zealand Cricket and the processes and regulations that they put in place. ur focus at this stage is on Bangladesh, but our focus will turn to Pakistan once this series is done,” he added.
The Black Caps are set to fly into Pakistan on a charter flight on September 11, the day after they complete their T20 series in Bangladesh.
The Blackcaps are touring Pakistan after 18 years for three ODIs and five T20Is. The ODIs will be played at Pindi Cricket Stadium while Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium will host five T20Is.
